I'm thinking about something popular,maybe golf or fishing. Everyday people would be involved.Not something they need, but what they want.

Okay, your question sounds a bit farfetched to me, but I thin I see what you're getting at. You need to find the niche. To do that you need to understand the market. What is currently being targeted, what isn't. Take golf, for example, there are loads of hot, desirable products in golf. The golf industry is all about that. So you'll have to work hard to find a niche. Think laterally - children, armchair golfers, extreme golf, etc... go where lots of people aren't. Fishing is _very_ different again. There are fewer high value premium brands there. Choose a niche and find where it is underserved. Buy magazines in your chosen area and see what works and do something similar but different. Talk to people who do that activity lots - don't ask what they want to buy, ask who they want to be, who they want to share their passion with, what their greatest ambition is. Give them something that makes them that person. There is no easy route, you have to do loooots of research.
